Thank you to all of the families who came out last night for Back to School Night! I was told that we had so many people in attendance that parking reached into the surrounding neighborhoods. I am proud to be a part of a community that is engaged in the education of their children.
Now that we have had a few weeks to settle into the routine of school, I want to briefly revisit the number of new initiatives and programs that are being implemented this year as a result of the One George Strategic Planning process from last year. We have dedicated significant manpower and resources to these projects to ensure that they are done well.
Here are just a few new things happening this year:
GW Ambassador Program
This program is aimed at enhancing individual student performance, leadership skills, the culture at GW, and our relationship with the local community. To read more and see who are the 2015-2015 Ambassadors, please click¬ HERE.
This past spring GW received a grant that funds seven teachers transitioning into roles called Team Leads. These teachers serve in a hybrid role that includes both teaching and non-teaching time. In their time without students, they serve as instructional leaders supporting a team of teachers through coaching, co-planning lessons, observing instruction, and providing feedback. Weekly Staff Professional Development
Starting this school year we have modified the bell schedule to allow for 90 minutes of staff professional development every Thursday. On these mornings we come together as a staff to learn and collaborate. To read about the principles guiding our professional development plan and see what we are doing every week, please click¬ HERE.
These are only three of many new projects we are working on this year. In the coming weeks I will be highlighting more of our new initiatives and their progress.
