This is a reminder that as per district guidelines, over-the-counter medications such as Ibuprofen and Tylenol are not routinely stocked in the nurse’s office. Medication can only be dispensed with permission from the parent or guardian, as well as authorization from a prescriptive authority, such as an MD, NP, or PA.
This means that if there is a likelihood that your child may need to have access to medication during the school year for recurring issues – such as headaches, menstrual cramps, musculoskeletal pain, a sports injury, or seasonal allergies – please have your student come to the nurse’s office to request a medication authorization. After receiving this authorization, signed by both your student’s guardian and their primary care provider, the student may bring that specific medication to be stored in the nurse’s office and given to them as needed throughout the school year.
Students may not self-carry either over the counter or prescription medications* on campus, due to the risk of allergic and adverse reactions should these medications be taken by students for whom they were not intended. Exceptions are made for emergency prescription medications such as Epi-pens and inhalers.
Attention seniors: the College & Career Advising team is hosting a required boot camp on Wednesday, October 11. All seniors are required to attend this day in order to learn about graduation requirements, college applications, and financial aid. Boot camp will begin at 8:00am in the Gym. If you do not attend senior boot camp, you will not be allowed a ticket to Homecoming. Please see your College & Career Advisor in the Success Center if you have any questions.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday, October 5, 2017, from 3:30pm to 7:30pm. Parents and guardians can stop by the cafeteria at any time during those hours to speak with teachers regarding the progress of their students. To make sure everyone has time to speak with each of their students’ teachers, we will be limiting conversations to 10 minutes per teacher. If you need more time with a teacher, please reach out to them to schedule an appointment for a conference on another day.
Do you want to go to a concert right here at GW? KS 107.5 is giving the school with the most spirit the opportunity to host a concert from one of Billboard’s Top 100 Artists, and George is in the running! All you have to do is listen to KS 107.5, and text Patriots, GW, or George Washington High School to their text line, 69803, at any time of the day. The more texts we get, the closer we are to winning the contest. Tell your family and friends, and let’s show DPS that we have spirit!
