The Gifted and Talented Office at GWHS provides students with the support they need to nurture their individual academic strengths. Both new and established GT students can take a few simple but important steps to make sure that they have access to the resources they need.
Gifted and Talented Advanced Learning Plans
Every Gifted and Talented student needs to complete an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) to help identify personal strengths, yearly progress, and social and emotional needs. Start the process by logging in to Naviance HERE, using your six-digit student ID (lunch number) as your username, and your six-digit birthdate (February 9, 2000 would become 020900) as your password. Once you have logged in, please click on your “About Me” tab, then look for the link in the list of surveys to the left. Click ‘view all surveys,’ and you will be guided through the first part of your ALP. After you submit your ALP survey, the GT Office may be in further communication with next steps!
GT Goal Consultations
GT goal consultations are by appointment or walk in on Thursdays and may be set after a counselor, teacher, or administrative referral has been made. Students may self-refer through these professionals. Parents are always in full communication whenever goal consultations are in place. To schedule a consultation, fill out the form HERE.
Gifted and Talented Lunch Discussion Group
The GT Office hosts discussion group meetings every other Thursday in the Hall of Fame Room during lunch. The next few meetings are scheduled for December 14, January 11, and January 25. All GT students are welcome; if you plan to attend, please RSVP HERE.
If you have questions about the GW Gifted and Talented program, please reach out to Brian Beard at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Are you getting ready for the holidays? Do you need a candy cane to cope with finals? Then buy a Holi-gram for your friend, or for yourself, to show your appreciation and holiday spirit. From December 4-11, you can purchase a Holi-gram from Pep Club members in the Pike’s Peak Lobby during lunch and after school until 3:15pm. You can choose by color or holiday, with 4 different choices to choose from. Remember, some sweet candy cures all your school problems, so don’t hesitate to buy a Holi-gram from Pep Club!
With 2017’s Colorado Gives Day approaching on Tuesday, December 5, the Denver Scholarship Foundation invites the George community to donate to the GW Future Center. Donations will go toward DSF scholarships, which support George Washington students as they head to college. GW students have secured over $3 million in scholarships through DSF since 2007, and donations allow the Foundation to help make college possible for new graduating classes.
For last year’s Colorado Gives Day, the GW Future Center received over $1,800 in donations – the most of any DPS Future Center High School! This year, to support the generosity of the GW community, every dollar donated to the Future Center will be matched by the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI), and boosted even further by the Community First Foundation and FirstBank $1 Million Incentive Fund. Donation matching starts now and lasts until the end of the day on December 5, and all contributions made within the next week will count toward George’s total on Colorado Gives Day.
If you would like to contribute, click HERE, scroll down, and select George Washington from the list of DPS High Schools. If you have any questions, contact Jasmine Rainey at email@example.com. Thank you for your support!

Join the GW Poetry Club in the Library next Wednesday, December 6 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm for this semester’s Open Mic Night. This is your chance to share your talents in a relaxed, friendly environment. Sing, play an instrument, read original fiction or poetry, do stand-up comedy, or just join the audience and support your peers. Performance sign-ups are limited, so stop by the Library by December 4 to make sure you get an open slot.
Senior Family Night will take place next Tuesday, December 5 at 5:30pm in the GW Cafeteria. Join us for dinner and learn about what comes after the college admissions process, including navigating the ins and outs of campus life, finalizing your financial aid, and making the most of your college choice. Please let your College & Career Advisor in the Success Center know if your family will be attending.
Please join us for the December 13 Parent Feedback Forum, which will focus GW’s Academics and Unified Improvement Plan. Several administrative leaders at GW, including Ms. Greeley, Mr. Bolz, and Ms. Harkness, will share new academic programs and strategies at GW and provide insight and progress on the school’s Unified Improvement Plan. You’ll be able to give feedback on the positive experiences you’ve had in these areas, as well as offer suggestions on opportunities for improvement.
