Please join the GW Grounds Committee for a Community Service Day this Saturday, October 6, from 10:00am until noon. It’s a great way for students to earn required community service hours while giving back to the school and community. Parents and families are encouraged to join in! Meet near the community garden above the south parking lot. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water. See you there!
Waterway Car Wash is giving away free express car washes to any student with a student ID every Saturday and Sunday in October and November. All you have to do is go inside and show the cashier your GW student ID. Take advantage of this awesome offer!
Are you signed up to take the SAT on Saturday, October 6? If so, don’t forget that you need to print a confirmation ticket, bring a valid ID (school IDs will be accepted), and have non-mechanical #2 pencils and a calculator. Without these supplies, you may not be admitted to your testing room, or your test may not be scored. If you have questions, please stop by the Future Center!

Please join us for the October 17 Feedback Forum, which will focus on academic and discipline disparities at GW. You will hear from Principal Kristin Waters and the professionals leading academics and discipline at GW. Students will share their views and experiences, and Forum attendees will be able to give feedback on the experiences they’ve had in these areas and offer suggestions on opportunities for improvement.
Snacks, childcare, and interpretation services will be provided. If you’d like to attend, please RSVP HERE.
On Wednesday, October 10, GW freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will take exams alongside the rest of their grades. Freshmen and sophomores will take a practice version of the PSAT. Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT, which will fulfill one of the entry requirements into the National Merit Scholarship Program, and provide access to other scholarships and college search services.
George will have a shortened “testing day” schedule on October 10. Students must be assembled outside their assigned testing rooms at 7:30am. Students will be dismissed at 11:35am, with grab-and-go bag lunches provided in the cafeteria. If you have a student who receives extended time on the College Board exams, you and your student will be provided with a later dismissal time.
In order to be prepared for testing, all students should bring:
- A valid GWHS student (or government-issued) identification.
- A graphing or scientific calculator, if available. We will supply a calculator if your student does not have one.
You can support your student by:
- Ensuring their prompt arrival.
- Helping them get adequate rest the night before.
- Reminding them of the importance of breakfast prior to the test day.
Please stay tuned for information regarding plans for seniors on October 10.
Tonight’s presentation on financial aid options scheduled for 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the GW Library has been cancelled. Please check back for more information on upcoming Future Center events.
