Looking for Volunteers
Volunteers are needed for the upcoming annual IB Used Book Buy Back and Sale. Hours are May 18 from 11:00am – 1:00pm and May 21 from 11:00am – 4:00pm in the IB Office. Please contact Kathryn Stieneker at firstname.lastname@example.org or Pam Paulien at email@example.com if you are interested.
Changes to this year’s IB New Book Order
The Friends of IB Scholars Foundation offers an annual used book buy back and sale, as well as a group purchase of new books. These activities are not designed for profit, but rather solely for the purpose of raising funds to cover book expenses for our F/RL students-of-need. This year, rather than marking up the cost of the books, a $15 service fee will be required. Book prices will be exactly as charged by our local supplier, Tattered Cover, with no markup. The service is both convenient and supportive of a good cause. New books will be delivered directly to students in the first days of school. Look for the New Book Order form to come out soon. We hope that you will participate!
Attention IB F/RL Students – Changes to the IB Book Sale procedure!
If you are an IB junior or senior F/RL student, your textbooks will be loaned to you in class directly from your teachers. You will then return your textbooks to your teachers at the end of the school year. You do not have to attend the IB used book sale.

This year’s SAT/PSAT scores became available on May 3. Students can click HERE and create a free College Board account, or log in using an existing account, to view their scores. Some scores may be released at a later date if a student participated in the accommodated testing window, makeup testing, missing information, or exceptional conditions that require additional attention.
Please follow these steps in order to match and view your scores:
- Click HERE and create an account or log in.
- Scroll down and click Matching Tool.
- Review the personal information.
- If any information is incorrect, click Update to revise. (Students will be prompted to re-enter their password.)
- If the information is correct, click Get My Scores.
- The student will have to select one of the following options:
- I can supply my test information (test date and registration number for SAT or test date and access code for PSAT), or
- I can supply my student ID (using the State Assigned Student ID (SASID) used to pre-identify the student at test registration)
- Click Get My Scores.
Please see your Advisor in the Success Center if you are having trouble accessing your scores.
Students can take the SAT again in order to raise their scores! To sign up for a future test, or to take the ACT or SAT Subject Tests, please visit the College Board’s SAT website or the GW Future Center. Waivers are available to qualifying students to cover the exam costs.
We are looking for parent volunteers to work one on one with students in the GW Post Grad Center in our Life After George program. Life After George volunteers work with sophomores and juniors to guide them through the Naviance program, review career surveys, build resumes, develop individual plans of study and academic support opportunities, and reflect on student goals and aspirations during and after high school.
LAG just finished its first year and successfully met one on one with every sophomore and junior at GW. If you’re interested in volunteering, some computer knowledge is helpful, but not required – just bring a positive attitude and great listening skills. The time commitment is approximately three hours per week starting in September for sophomores and again starting in January for juniors. We will offer two all-inclusive training sessions starting in late August, 2018. If you’re interested, please contact Shelly Sibelius (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Martha Byers (email@example.com).
This year’s Day of Silence will be occurring on Monday, May 14. The Day of Silence is a student-led national event where students take a vow of silence to highlight the silencing of LGBTQ people at school. Day of Silence is organized and led by our Gay Straight Alliance. If you wish to participate, please attend GSA this Wednesday, May 9 during lunch in Room 24.
