The GW Wrestling team begins practice for the season on Friday, November 10, from 3:30pm – 6:00pm. We encourage all interested students to join, as several all-female wrestling tournaments are scheduled for this season. Students must complete all required permission slips and have a current sports physical filed with GW Athletics staff to participate. Please contact the Athletics Office for more details.
The Patriot Wrestling team is hosting a fundraiser at GW’s local Chipotle (820 South Monaco) on Wednesday, November 15, between 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Proceeds from the event will be donated to George Washington High School Wrestling. Bring your appetite and your friends, and remember to let your cashier know that you’re there to support George!
The GWHS Food Pantry and Student Assistance Fund is a Proud Patriot Parent initiative and is new this fall. GWHS supports many students receiving free and reduced lunch and students struggling with homelessness. By supporting GW’s new program, you are helping our young adults work towards a better future. This program is 100% maintained by community support and donations. We need your help!
We have a number of different opportunities this Fall for individuals, families, companies, and groups (Girl or Boy Scouts, churches, synagogues, book clubs, etc).
- Sponsor a GWHS student for Thanksgiving – donate $40 or a basket of Thanksgiving items to be distributed to students identified by our social worker and homeless liaison. If you would like to sponsor a student’s Thanksgiving, click HERE
- Donate food items / host a food drive – we need non-perishable food donations and love every box or can that we receive to support our teens. Ask for donations at birthday parties and corporate events, or have your group host a mini food drive. Our most needed items at the moment are peanut butter and jelly, canned fruit, boxed pasta, canned pasta sauce, boxed macaroni and cheese, and cans of soup.
- Sponsor a GWHS student for school supply support – donate funds or collect items of specific need for a George student to support their learning and high school experience. For example, you could help a student by covering their sports participation fees, glasses, calculators, AP course fees, art course fees, bus fares, etc.
- Volunteer to help with the Food Pantry, fundraising, or special student assistance programs – these can be done during the school day or at home. We need volunteers to help pack weekend food boxes and individual meal bags, pick up donated food or food from the Food Bank of the Rockies, and coordinate fundraising events and grants, as well as special programs like Thanksgiving, Winter Break, etc.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the GW Patriots Care Student Assistance Fund, please click HERE, or write a check to ‘Patriots Care / GWHS Student Assistance Fund’ and drop it off at George in the Food Pantry Box near the office. To volunteer with the Food Pantry, please sign up HERE.
For more information on the Fund and its activities, contact Jo-Nell Herndon at GWHS_StudentAssistance@yahoo.com, or text or call (720) 244-8742. Thank you for your interest and support!
