Author Ellen Hopkins Speaks to GW Students
On January 23, bestselling author Ellen Hopkins made George the first school visit of her book tour as she promotes her newest novel, The You I’ve Never Known. Thanks to a partnership with Tattered Cover, Ms. Hopkins gave a talk to hundreds of GW students and answered their questions about the inspiration behind her novels. She addressed our students with the honesty and thoughtfulness that have always been hallmarks of her writing, sharing her own life story, along with the story of her daughter’s struggle with meth addiction that formed the basis of her debut novel, Crank.
Ms. Hopkins encouraged her audience to find the passions that drive them to action, and stayed after her talk to chat and sign books. She was impressed with the questions she got from students, a few of which she’d never been asked during a school presentation before. Thank you to our GW scholars for being such an engaged audience, and to Ellen Hopkins for spending her morning with us!
