First Generation College Initiative Brings Students and Staff Together
On October 6, the College and Career Advising team launched the First Generation College Initiative to increase visibility and resources for our students who will be the first in their family to attend college. A first generation college student is defined as someone attending or planning to attend college whose parents have not completed four year college degrees. Over 30 faculty and staff members identify as first generation, and were given a GW First Gen t-shirt to wear on the first Friday of every month to celebrate this accomplishment. There will be special events throughout the year for our first generation students and their families, including a lunch to connect our first generation students and staff members.
