August 7, 2017 GWHS

87783F03-1GWHS MedConnect Sophomore, April McMullen was awarded 2017 DPS CareerLaunch Intern of Year award by Mayor Michael Hancock during the CareerLaunch Internship Celebration at Sports Authority Field on July 21st, 2017. April was one of almost 300 DPS CareerConnect students participating in summer internships across the city. April’s internship was at Kindred Senior Living, where she worked with residents in a variety of ways including in the dining hall and became an integral part of the community. Residents and guests reported that she always approached her job with a positive attitude and was able to help residents advocate for themselves as well. Her own stated goal was to “make sure I do my job to the best of my ability so that the residents feel cared for.” Additionally, April managed her own life professionally, responding to all communication quickly, keeping her paperwork in order and consistently reaching out with complex questions to help her better understand her position.

Receiving this award meant the world to April and she takes enormous pride in her work, as she dreams of working in the field of Forensic Science.

 Congratulations!
