GW Patriot Players Shine at the Colorado Thespian Conference
Every year, the Colorado State Thespians host the Colorado Thespian Conference, the second-largest high school theatre conference in the country. From Thursday, December 6 until Saturday, December 8, over 4000 high school theatre students took over the Colorado Convention Center to participate in individual events, attend in-depth learning workshops, and see their peers’ work as theatre artists.
George Washington’s Patriot Players, Thespian Troupe #1621, sent 38 students to the conference, coming from all grades and levels of experience. Of our 38 students, 15 presented in individual events, and two seniors submitted college auditions.
The scoring system for Individual Events is similar to a classroom rubric, with Superior being the highest score and Excellent being the next highest. Everyone who scored Superior qualifies to go to Nationals in Nebraska in June. George had a number of Superior qualifiers, and no Patriot Player who presented this year scored below an Excellent.
Sam Nguyen and Nevaeh Hall scored Superior
Audrey Willius and Morgan Ward scored Superior
Spencer Gordon and Astra Megyesi scored Superior
Finn Finnegan and Ashley Stringer scored Excellent
Georgie Armatas scored Superior
Ariel Sutherland scored Superior
Morgan Ward scored Superior
Luke McKenzie scored Excellent
Hannah-Daisy Vagi scored Excellent
Alexandra Marusich scored Superior
Anna Vidergar scored Superior in one event and Excellent in another
Safia Goldsmith scored Excellent in costuming
For our college auditions, Luke McKenzie had 11 college call-backs, and Naomi VanGulick had 12 college call-backs. Some schools offered scholarships as well as automatic admission to our graduating Patriots.
Congratulations to our Patriot Players, and thank you for your continued support of the arts at George!
