‘Soul Food Scholar’ Adrian Miller Visits George
Author, speaker, and soul food scholar Adrian Miller visited George before Fall Break for an event jointly sponsored by the Patriot Pairs Mentoring Program and the GW Library. Adrian Miller is the author of two books about the history of soul food (Soul Food and The President’s Kitchen Cabinet), and he has dedicated the last few years of his career to studying and sampling southern soul food all over the country. He engaged both the mentors and the mentees in his audience with a presentation about a meal many of them recognized from their own tables, and covered each dish’s historical antecedents, its current impacts, and its tasty varieties. After the presentation, everyone enjoyed an amazing soul food feast prepared by Patriot Pairs mentors using Adrian’s recipes.
Many thanks to Adrian Miller for bringing his knowledge, enthusiasm, and inspirational personal and career story to George’s students!
