GW will be on a strike schedule on Thursday, February 14.
While a tentative agreement has been reached between the DCTA and DPS, the majority of GWHS teachers will not be returning to work today.
On Thursday, February 14 we will be operating under our strike plans that have been in place this week. If you choose to send your student to school today, please remind them to start in the auditorium at 9:05am. Classes will be dismissed at 2:10pm.
GW will be fully operational Friday, February 15, when our teachers return to work.
GWHS Strike Plan
If you choose to send your student to school, here is what to expect:
During the strike, our school day will run from 7:30am – 2:30pm. The day will start with an all-student assembly in our auditorium from 7:30am – 8:00am.
Freshmen and Sophomores will rotate through grade-level classes in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and PE. Juniors will be preparing for the SAT, and Seniors will be working on credit recovery, testing for college credit, college applications, and guided work time.
All students must present their student ID in order to enter the building.
Arrivals and Departure
All students must enter through the North Lobby or Pikes Peak Lobby doors.
If you wish to excuse your child from school, you must notify the school or the absence will be unexcused. Daily attendance will be taken and if you are absent, a call will be made home to notify the parent/guardian. If you leave the building before the end of the day you must check-out in the North Lobby or Pikes Peak Lobby. You may not come back once you have checked out for the day.
Students’ graduation ceremony participation will not be negatively impacted by attendance during the strike.
All GW safety protocols and school rules will be in place during the strike. All students must carry their school ID. Our DPD School Resource Officer and DPS Campus Security will be onsite to ensure a safe learning environment. The picket line could cause congestion, so please plan your pick-up and drop-off timing and location with this in mind.
GW’s cafeteria will be open and breakfast and lunch will be served as normal.
Students receiving DPS transportation services (including the CEC bus) won’t experience any interruptions.
During the strike we will communicate with families via robo-call, text, email, and our website. When the strike ends we will notify you using the same methods.
All athletics will go on as scheduled. Per CHSAA regulations, student attendance at school is required to participate in practices and/or games. At the end of the day student athletes should report to the gym.
Clubs and After School Activities
All clubs and after-school activities (except athletics) will be cancelled in the event of a strike. We have provided special instructions to theatre, speech and debate, robotics, JROTC and other performing/competing groups. We will re-share those instructions with the respective groups on the first day of the strike.
We will continue to update families throughout the strike. If you have any questions please reach out to our main office at 720-423-8600.
