One George Update

One George Update
April 16, 2015 GWHS

I have three updates for you this week, all of which fall into the category of “what’s next at George?”

Over the next two weeks the One George Action Committees will be reconvening to review the progress that has been made since we presented the One George plan in late January. I’ve been checking in with the various task forces throughout the winter and spring, and I remain impressed with the amount of meaningful work being done. Even more inspiring is to see how working towards this shared vision has engaged and united the George community.

If you are curious about the ongoing work of One George, I encourage you to attend these upcoming Action Committee meetings. I believe you will be as excited as I am when you see the volume of work that has been accomplished, and the spirit that is driving the George community to innovate and unite. The schedule for the Action Committee Updates is as follows:

Monday, April 20 | 4:00pm ” 5:30pm | Intentional School Culture
Tuesday, April 21 | 4:00pm ” 5:30pm | Patriot Pathways
Wednesday, April 22 | 4:00pm ” 5:30pm | Distributed Leadership
Tuesday April 28 | 4:00pm ” 5:30pm | Student Centered Learning and Supports
*all meetings will take place in the GW Community Room

By mid-May we will have a comprehensive One George progress report to share with the community. We will be sure to let you know when it is ready!

Since mid-March the GW principal candidates have been undergoing an intensive and thorough interview process and the candidate pool has been narrowed significantly. On Monday, April 27 at 5:00 ” 7:30pm in the gym, we will be holding a Principal Search Community Forum. You will meet the final candidates for GW’s principal and can ask them about the issues that are most important to you. So mark your calendars and start making a list of your hardest questions!

The Collaborative School Committee is holding elections for new parent members. The first step in this process is to submit your self-nomination for becoming a parent CSC representative. Nominations are due by May 1, 2015 at 3:00pm. Click HERE for the nomination form.

Finally, I want to take a moment and encourage everyone to take a deep breath. I know that by mid-April, it can seem like the remaining weeks of school get longer and longer. Although you wouldn’t know it from the weather today, the school year is almost complete and a chance to rest and recuperate is right around the corner. Let’s get there calmly, do our work well, and ease into the summer season with our spirits high.
