When I joined the George family in the Fall of 2014, I did so on an temporary basis. I was tasked with guiding the work of One George and supporting the search for a permanent principal who could carry on this meaningful and transformative work.
This is why I am thrilled to share the plan for onboarding the next principal of George Washington High School. The district has agreed to hire a new principal who will join the George community starting this summer and serve with me during the 2015-2016 school year. The incoming principal will be working with myself, the leadership team, the GW faculty, students, parents, and community to learn and understand the processes and norms here at George. This year of learning for the new principal will lay the groundwork for a smooth transition without the procedural and cultural overhaul that George has experienced in the past. Support of this nature is unprecedented and illustrates the District’s commitment to the success of our school.
The first step in this process is to find out from you, the staff, what characteristics you want to see in your new principal. The Personnel Committee (Angela Danley, Thad Hildner, and Derrick McNeill) will be reaching out to solicit your input by early next week. The DPS Human Resources department will begin to screen candidates based on the behaviors and skills identified as necessary for successful leadership of a large, comprehensive high school. When we return from Spring Break the formal interview process will begin.
I encourage you to read about the hiring process in depth by clicking¬ HERE. ¬ We will remain transparent through this process and update you along the way. This weekly email will publish all updates and calls to action. We have also created a Principal Search page on our website that will have the most up-to-date information as we move forward.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
