Boys Basketball Heads to Final Four on Friday

Boys Basketball Heads to Final Four on Friday
March 8, 2017 GWHS

“Who’s got my back?”

This is the cry you hear before every game as the boys of winter huddle up and get ready to play. For the 2016 – 2017 season the GW Boys Basketball team has been living by the motto “One Goal, One Team, One Dream.” That goal is to bring a State Championship back to George Washington High School.

GW last won the state championship when “Mr. Big Shot” Chauncey Billups was on the team in 1994. The last time the boys team played in a final four game was in 2009. They advanced to the final state championship game that year but were defeated in overtime by four points.

This current team of young men has been on a mission over the last four years, a span during which the team has reached the Sweet 16 three times, won three DPS League Championships and, for the first time in seven years, will be taking the court in a Final Four gamethis Friday.

The team is currently ranked as the #3 boys basketball team in the state of Colorado, the # 97th ranked team in the Nation, and holds of record of 24-2 this season. At 7:00pm this Friday the Patriots will be taking on Thunder Ridge High School at the Denver Coliseum.

We hope to see you there as we show Denver what it means to show our Patriot Pride.

Boys, we’ve got your back.
