Budget Update

Budget Update
February 19, 2016 GWHS

Dear GW Community –

We are happy to share with you today that we have received our final budget for the 2016-2017 school year. We wish to extend our gratitude to DPS for their quick attention and generous support of our school.

Over the past four years George has received unprecedented levels of financial support from the district. As we work to establish sustainability by increasing our enrollment numbers, DPS has allocated an additional $380,000 in financial assistance beyond our standard budget for the 2016-2017 school year. The district leadership has thoughtfully reviewed our specific needs and has dedicated funds to support programs such as Freshman Advisory, teacher leadership, and instructional supports.

We know that many of you are wondering what this means about staffing decisions at the school. Future budget stability at George depends on the proper level of staffing relative to the size of our student body. Based on next year’s projected enrollment we are making reductions to ensure that resources are being responsibly managed. We do anticipate a larger incoming freshman class for 2016-2017 and, with the support of our community, we intend to maintain this trend in the years to come.

It is incredibly important to us that our community understands we cannot accept this financial assistance without working hard in return – to reach sustainability we must continue the work of One George. The collective effort of the past 18 months must persist – now is not the time to rest. As a community one of our most important objectives is to build a strong neighborhood school that attracts students from across the Denver area. This is the most effective manner in which we can move away from reliance on financial assistance and reach sustainability.

With the support of district leadership and our school board members we can head into next year confident that our quality programs and offerings will continue. Get ready; we are on a mission to provide the greatest educational opportunity for every student who walks through our doors and we won’t stop until all of Denver knows what it means to be a Proud Patriot.

Sincerely,

José Martinez | Interim Principal and Proud Patriot
Scott Lessard | Succession Principal and Proud Patriot
