BusinessConnect Students Learn to Build a School Budget

BusinessConnect Students Learn to Build a School Budget
April 28, 2016 GWHS

BusinessConnect students were welcomed by Denver Public Schools’ Finance Department for a CareerX Job Exploration Event on Tuesday.  The event started with students learning that the number one skill DPS Finance looks for in job candidates is Critical Thinking. BusinessConnect students were then split up into teams and worked together on the identical budgeting exercise that potential job candidates are required to complete for an interview.  Once students were equipped with some basic budgeting skills, they were then tasked with creating a school budget by making deductions, additions and neutral decisions to bring about positive results for the school population.  Everyone was highly engaged and walked away with a better understanding of how difficult it is to make a good budget.  If you have any questions about this CareerX Event, please contact Gideon Geisel, Pathway Director at gideon_geisel@dpsk12.org
