CareerConnect Round Up – April 29, 2017
Creating access and opportunity for all GWHS CareerConnect students is the cornerstone of our programming. Through genuine work based and project based experiences, we are continuously providing students with relevant content that will put them ahead of the curve in their academic and professional futures.
On May 11 in the Library, parents, teachers, and industry partners are invited to participate in a collaborative Student Showcase: Health and Credit Card Check-Ups. Mr. Barotz’s High School of Business Wealth Management classes have been busy presenting to their peers, educating them on the ABCs of possessing a credit card. In this first of its kind opportunity, Wealth Management students will be teaming up with Bioscience students to give adults a 30 minute check-up on heart health and credit card safety. Please sign-up for a 30 minute session in the library HERE.
It was a milestone week for GWHS MedConnect, as all students were given the opportunity to become CPR/AED Certified by the American Heart Association. DPS Emergency Management trainers teamed up with our very own Americorps member, Sean Ballinger, to train and certify all 5 sections of MedConnect students in just two days. All participants were thrilled to walk away with this industry standard certification that will benefit not only the school, but the community as a whole!
Finally, I am proud to highlight our very own MedConnect student, Vanessa M. Vanessa is a true inspiration to all who have the opportunity to meet her and exemplifies what can be done when students are given access and opportunity. Taking risk is scary, but taking risk can also pay off with huge opportunity! Vanessa is a two year participant in GWHS MedConnect and will be in her second CareerLaunch Internship this summer. Watch Vanessa’s inspiring story HERE.
