CareerConnect Round Up – October 22, 2018
The last two weeks have been a busy time for our CareerConnect students as they seize exciting opportunities to engage with industry.
Business Leader Roundtable
More than 50 of Ms. Ozee’s Business students learned about the different functions of business by sitting in small group discussions with industry leaders from a wide array of local companies. Representatives from IKEA, Danone North America, Elitch Gardens, Southwest Airlines, Denver Public Schools, Lawrence & Larimer, Domoto Brands, and Southern Sky Capital volunteered their time to give our students the chance to ask questions and learn about topics including marketing, human resources, and general management. The student engagement was phenomenal and marked another successful event for our team!
We had our second CareerCoach mentoring session with Kaiser Permanente last week. 14 students and their mentors spent a morning session focusing on career planning and interviewing of adult professionals in the medical field. Participants also toured the Kaiser Regional Laboratory facility and learned how automation has allowed for Kaiser to process thousands more patient tests a day and, more importantly, hire more skilled workers to run the lab. It was a great day and helped build a strong foundation for how the year-long program will look and feel.
Around 50 of Mr. Barotz’s freshman Business students attended a job exploration event at the Federal Reserve Downtown. Students learned about the major functions of the Federal Reserve, as well as available jobs, career path advice, and overall workplace expectations. Students also visited the money counting room, and observed how six million dollars are counted, stored, and redistributed.
