Dear GW Community –
Fall 2020 was like no other sports season we have ever seen! We were able to run four sports this fall – Boys Golf, Boys Tennis, Softball and Cross Country. I am so grateful for all of the coaches, student-athletes, and parents that did anything and everything to be safe and ensure we were able to complete all of our fall sports.
It was a fall to remember and each and every student/athlete represented George Washington well and we could not be more proud of all you’re accomplishments!
With Patriot Pride,
Kevin Maguire | Assistant Principal, Athletic Director
George Washington High School
Here are some highlights of the season:
The golf season started off with one big question…Are we going to have a golf season? With only three days before the season, golf got approved and we were ready to go. The golf team had a record number of players this year and they came in swinging. I believe this is because it was one of the only thing people could do during the Covid Summer of 2020!
Two 9th graders had the opportunity to play in one or more varsity tournament. In the last league tournament, 9th grader, Jeff Pellet, shot the best 9 of the year at 38 and because of it broke 90 for the first time in his career. In addition the varsity team shot their best combined round at that tournament of 261 to come back from a 17 stroke deficit to tie TJ in the league standings. Sam Gottesfeld, 11th Grader, made Second team All League with a scoring average of 86.25. The season ended with two golfers just missing out on the state tournament by only 2 strokes…Thats Golf! Though they were disappointed, they are determined to come back next year hungry to qualify and represent GWHS!
Sam Gottesfeld | 2nd Team All City
What a season, the team fought so hard throughout the year and ended the 2020 season with an 11-5 record including sweeping a doubleheader over Denver East. If there was ever a season that showed the grit and teamwork this 2020 season exemplified that!. Stay Tuned for next weeks announcement for 1st/2nd All-League and Honorable Mention players. Thanks for a great Season!
