On Tuesday, September 17th GW celebrated our annual Hispanic Heritage Month Assembly. September marks the time where the nation pays tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. Students were presented with traditional Mexican folk dances, baile folklorico, from local dance troupe Los Raices del Tierra. Senior Janie Thomson performed her award winning speech , which told the story of spoken word and poet Mercedez Holtry, who grew up Chicana in the United States. Finally, members of La Casa, the GW Latinx Student Association, presented their written work, Latinx is not just Black and White.
