Former DPS Cadet Teaches Current GW Cadets
On April 11, DPS Safety and Security Officer John Peters was in familiar territory when he visited GWHS’s 2nd period JROTC class. As a student of East High School, Officer Peters had participated in JROTC before joining the US Army and serving as a sniper in both Afghanistan and Iraq. After seven combat tours with units like 10th Mountain Division and 3rd Brigade Combat Team and being awarded the Purple Heart, Officer Peters joined the DPS Department of Safety. During his visit to 6th Battalion, Officer Peters led the class in some of his favorite marching cadences from when he was a cadence caller for his brigade and shared a few of his experiences with current cadets.
