Student Supports

Student support is integrated throughout our building and classrooms, but the main hub is our Success Center. Located on our first floor, this is where you’ll find our counseling team, social emotional health team, and college advising.

Counselors

Students are assigned a counselor based on their last name, and will remain paired with them throughout their four years. Learn more about our counseling team.

Social Emotional Health Team

Our social emotional health team is focused on supporting the whole child. They advocate for students to receive appropriate mental health support and obtain equal public education in a safe and secure environment. Learn more about our social emotional health team.

Student Support Coordinator

The Student Support Coordinator develops and delivers support services and programs intended to improve student academic performance and social emotional experience. The Student Support Coordinator advocates and collaborates to promote equity and access to all students, but specifically under-represented and underserved populations, by connecting students to resources that promote both academic and social success. Denver Scholarship Foundation

The Denver Scholarship Foundation operates 15 Future Centers serving 19 Denver high schools, including GWHS. Each Future Center is staffed by a DSF College Advisor who works with students and families to increase access to and completion of post-secondary learning, whether that be through four year college or university enrollment or through other career or entrepreneurial opportunities. Ms. Minturn is the College Advisor at GWHS, supporting students in earning millions of dollars in scholarships for college, in addition to helping them navigate their post-secondary options upon high school graduation. DSF also provides four-year renewable need-based scholarships.

If you are a college representative and would like to visit GWHS to meet our students, please contact Hannah Minturn at hminturn@denverscholarship.org.

City Year

GWHS is proud to partner with City Year, a nationwide youth development organization, to further enrich the learning experience of our students. City Year creates environments where young people feel like they belong so that they can fulfill their potential. City Year staff members are embedded in our grade 9 English Honors and Integrated Math 1 classes, which allows them to engage with the same material taught in class alongside students. City Year also provides free after-school tutoring four days a week.

Denver Health

GWHS is proud to announce that, in partnership with Denver Health, The Pulse, our School-based Health Clinic, opened in January 2022! The Pulse offers medical, mental health, dental, health education, and family planning, as well as insurance enrollment and advising services. The type of services available to students include physical exams (including sports physicals), immunizations, prescriptions, reproductive health care, mental health and substance use counseling, consultations on sick visits, and much more! These services are available at NO COST to all DPS students.
