GW Be Inspired Fund Assists Students with Need-Based Requests
The new GW Be Inspired Fund provides support for George Washington students in five main areas – classroom enrichment, student assistance and food pantry, teacher mini-grants, building improvements, and community outreach. The funds are being invested to help enrich the student experience.
The Be Inspired student assistance program helps provide support to individual students with need-based requests. “Any GW student who has a need related to their success in high school is encouraged to request Be Inspired funds from one of the GW social workers in Room 112G,” says Sarah Hartman, school social worker. “We consider all qualified requests and work with each student to help ensure that their need is met.” So far, funding has been focused on school transportation fees.
The P3 Food Pantry is in its second year of operation and is open to GW students and staff for grocery shopping on Fridays from 2:30pm to 3:00pm. No registration is required. “Participants can come to the Food Pantry located in Room 109 or they can request that groceries be delivered their homes once a month,” says Jo-Nell Herndon, volunteer Food Pantry leader.
“We also offer Thanksgiving and Winter Break meals. Thanksgiving Meal Baskets include a turkey and all the sides for a full dinner. Meals can be delivered to homes or picked up at school,” Herndon says. Forms for the monthly delivery program and Thanksgiving and Winter Break meals are available outside of Room 109, or can be requested through a GW social worker. The deadline to request a Thanksgiving Meal Basket is Friday, November 9.
