Dear GWHS Community,
It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents that impact our community safety. Due to the anticipated high temperatures on Wednesday, September 7 and Thursday, September 8, we have decided to send students home at 12:00pm on those days. This is being done for the safety of our students and staff.
Our schedule for Wednesday, September 7 will be as follows:
Our schedule for Thursday, September 8 will be as follows:
Since temperatures are forecasted to drop significantly on Friday, September 9, we plan to operate on a regular bell schedule that day.
As you may know, our building has been experiencing issues with its air conditioning system. In order to protect the health and safety of our students and staff, reducing the scheduled time in our building was approved by Denver Public Schools for the next two days.
When temperatures rise to these levels, heat exhaustion is always a possibility, whether kids are outside or in a building that isn’t effectively air-conditioned. Here are some signs of heat exhaustion:
While these signs do not automatically warrant a trip to a doctor, the person should rest in a shady area or in an air-conditioned building, drink cool fluids such as water or sports drinks, and take a cool shower, or put towels soaked in cool water on their skin.
We would like to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dackri Davis
Principal | George Washington High School
