We are Proud Patriot Parents, guardians and community members committed to fulfilling the vision of a unified school culture. We advocate for the success of GWHS students and families by being welcoming and inclusive. In 2018-2019, we invite parents, guardians and community members to engage in:
Patriot Pride: Create opportunities to celebrate and support GWHS students and staff at school and throughout the community. Opportunities: Seek and implement innovative ways to connect the Patriot families back to the school (e.g., Culture Fest, P3 Celebrations/Patriot Prize, athletic events, the arts, academic assemblies, clubs, JROTC, etc.)
Parent Voice: Create a platform to contribute, ask questions and bring concerns to decision makers that support the school. Opportunities: Organize and attend GW Feedback Forums and other school advocacy projects. Topics: Views on Academic and Discipline Disparities, Arts at GW, and Decoding the GW Dress Code.
Academic Support/Mentoring: Support students in becoming well-prepared for college and career. Opportunities: Serve as a tutor or a Patriot Pairs mentor; support the GW Success Center with Life After George sophomore and junior mentoring, volunteer for Senior Boot Camp, host college rep visits, and support college application and essay review.
Special Events: Assist with organizing and volunteering for events by and for students. Opportunities: After Prom, Teacher and Staff Appreciation Events, Freshman BBQ, New Student/Family Recruiting, Administrative Professionals Day, Welcome Fest, etc.
Fundraising: Support grassroots fundraising with the Be Inspired Fund to enhance GW’s academic environment and school culture. Opportunities: Fund educational programs, faculty grants, food pantry and student assistance fund and building improvements.
Community Engagement: Parents join in topical conversations with expert presenters to gain insight and discuss skills to support all students. Topics: Screenagers: A Film About Teens Navigating the Digital World, Signs of Suicide, Patriot Alumni Panel, Teen Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Recovery, Increasing Awareness of Bias and Mindful Methods for Changing Behavior.
