Family Culturally Responsive Engagement

Family Culturally Responsive Engagement

Family Culturally Responsive Engagement initiative (FCRE). The purpose of this initiative is to align parent and community engagement with the work GW staff is doing to address the systemic inequities and racial segregation at GWHS.

Under the leadership of Dr. Waters, the GW staff is examining systems and structures that hinder full student engagement. We are engaging in honest conversations, sharing impactful experiences, and examining how we can create an inclusive culture that promotes excellence in every student. Using the same guiding principles the FCRE initiative offers parents an opportunity to participate and support the critical work happening at GW.

Affinity Group Workshops

The family culturally responsive work will begin with affinity groups – a space where families of similar backgrounds can come together to share experiences, identify and examine how they can begin to change systems and structures preventing a culture of excellence for all students. Based on the current student population, we will begin with two affinity groups. The AGs will meet the last Tuesday and Thursday of each month.

Our students are asking for change and our educators are engaging in change. Parents please partner with us to bring meaningful and productive change to GW.

Parents/Guardians who identify as African American/Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latinx, Mixed Race, and Island Pacific this is the affinity group for you! We will engage in honest conversations, share impactful experiences, and explore systems and structures that prevent student excellence. We will examine how systemic racism and other factors have hindered family engagement, a critical element of an inclusive culture at GW.
