Patriot Players Update – Chicago Takes the Stage!
Our award-winning Thespians have been hard at work since November working on Chicago the Musical. Auditions were open to the entire school, and 28 students were selected to be in the cast. Featured dancers, soloists, and chorus members all contribute to an exciting on-stage experience. The backstage is filled with another 15-20 students with varying degrees of experience. They move scenery, operate lighting and sound equipment, and make the production possible. The orchestra pit, too, is full of GW students showing their craft and expertise with their instruments. All told, nearly 50 of our Patriots are involved with the various aspects of producing this musical.
To further showcase the talent at GW, technical designs are also created by students. The set design, costume design, sound design, lighting design, and marketing are all done by our students, which is one aspect of our program which makes us truly unique in the district and in the state. Several past designs have garnered awards at the state and national levels, and we look forward to seeing this again.
The Denver Center for Performing Arts hosts the Bobby G Awards every year, a sort of Tony Awards for high school musicals. Our production of Chicago will be among 40 other schools adjudicated for possible nomination in this prestigious event. We have had nominations the last two years, for up-and-coming “Rising Star” underclassmen and for our orchestra. The Patriot Players do not disappoint.
Performances will run from Thursday, February 14 through Saturday, February 16 at 6:30pm, with an additional matinee performance on February 16 at 1:00pm. Tickets are available at the door – $10 general admission, $8 for students and seniors.
