Spring Testing

Spring Testing
February 18, 2016 GWHS

Warmer weather and longer days means that spring is on its way, – it also means that we are heading into the testing season. I want to take a moment to explain to you why it is so vitally important that students participate in these assessments.

From a classroom perspective, good instruction based on standards and assessment of student learning cannot occur in isolation of one another. Together they provide valuable insight into student learning and achievement and guide our instructional practice. We need this data to understand what we are doing well and where we need to provide additional support for our students.

From the business side of education, the participation of students taking these assessments will impact the school and its teachers. For every student that opts-out of an assessment, a zero is recorded for that student. Additionally, if we do not meet a 95% rate of participation in the 2016 assessments, our performance rating will be dropped one level, which in turn affects our school funding.

We ask for your support in maintaining GW’s reputation of rigor. Please do not opt out of these assessments. We depend on student participation to continue the good work that is happening at George.
