CLASS SCHEDULES AND CHANGE REQUESTS
Class schedules will be available to view through Student Portal starting at 3:00pm on Friday, August 19.* After Friday, August 19, changes to schedules are considered for compelling reasons only, including:

  • Needing to meet a graduation requirement
  • “Leveling up” (e.g., moving to an Honors course)
  • “Leveling down” (e.g., failing an Honors course)
  • Moving to a Concurrent Enrollment/AP/IB course (and all course prerequisites are met)

Changes to schedules for the following reasons will NOT be considered:

  • Period changes
  • Teacher changes

Process:

  • Requests will be considered the first week of school only (Tuesday, August 23 through Friday, August 26, from 8:00am to 3:45pm).
  • Students will scan QR code on flyers located in the North Lobby, Success Center, and Future Center in order to submit their request for consideration. No appointments will be given for schedule change requests the first week of school.
  • Those closest to graduation will have requests considered first (i.e., Class of 2023 students, then Class of 2024 students, etc.).

*To see your schedule, log into Student Portal and scroll down until you see “Class Schedule.” Your username is your six-digit DPS Student ID and your password is your eight-digit birthday. For example:

FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATIONS
After three years, the federal law providing pandemic-era child nutrition expired on June 30. This means starting this school year, students are expected to pay for their lunch at the time of service unless designated eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Free breakfast will still be available to everyone. To be considered for free lunch, families will need to fill out an application to qualify their students for free, reduced-price or paid meals. DPS encourages families to complete a meal benefits application as soon as possible to determine eligibility for free and reduced-price lunch. Once qualified, families also receive reduced fees for athletics, AP and IB exams, and other programming. Families can submit their application HERE (available in 8 languages; select your language with the drop-down tab at the upper right).

GWHS is proud to have on campus The Pulse, a Denver Health School Based Health Center! The Pulse is the newest Denver Health SBHC within DPS, with its state-of-the-art facilities celebrating a grand opening last semester. Consent forms for students to access The Pulse are now available for the 2022-2023 school year. Parents are able to sign up their students electronically HERE using E-consent. A printable copy of the consent form (in English and Spanish) is also available HERE. UPCOMING BUILDING SECURITY DRILLS
Per the office of Safety and Security at Denver Public Schools, we are required to conduct several security drills on a regular basis. We have outlined below the different kinds of drills we practice, and the frequency with which to expect them.

LOCK-DOWN AND LOCK-OUT: A Lock-DOWN occurs when there is a perceived threat inside our building. We teach our students and staff “Lights, Locks, Out of Sight,” which means that all classroom doors are locked, lights are turned off, and students and staff are moved out of sight. A Lock-OUT is when there is a perceived threat in close proximity to our school. We lock all exterior doors and no one is permitted to enter or exit our building. Business proceeds as usual inside the school building. When: Once a semester, within the first 30 days of each semester. We are not notified in advance of when DPS Safety and Security will conduct these drills.

BUILDING EVACUATION: This entails a complete evacuation of the building in case of a fire or other similar danger. When: We are required to practice the building evacuation once a month, with the first drill happening within the first two weeks of school.

SHELTER IN PLACE: This is used in case of a tornado. We move all students and staff into the hallways and away from windows and sit with our backs to the wall. When: Once a semester.
