DPS-ISSUED CHROMEBOOK REQUIREMENT
All students are expected to check out, use and maintain a DPS-issued Chromebook and charging cord. Several important assessments (including the P/SATs, ACCESS testing, CMAS Science and several AP exams) are pre-loaded into the DPS Chromebook App Kiosk, which are necessary for students to access. Students are expected to bring a laptop or iPad-type device to school each day. When required by GWHS, students should bring their DPS-issued Chromebook to school. When not required, students may bring either their DPS-issued Chromebook or a personal laptop or iPad-type device to school. Students who do not have a DPS-issued Chromebook should watch for an upcoming announcement about checkout procedures.

BUILDING ENTRY AND EXIT TIMES
Students are allowed in the school building between the hours of 7:15am and 4:00pm. If students have an athletic practice, club activity, or other school business to conduct before 7:15am or after 4:00pm, they must be admitted into the building by their coach or adult supervisor, and remain under the watch of their coach/adult supervisor.

EARLY PICKUP TIME CUTOFF
If your student needs to leave before the end of the school day, please note that students cannot be released after 3:00pm. Please schedule any early pickups before 3:00pm, and notify the Main Office at (720) 423-8642.

ASSESSMENT – PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 9 AND ACCUPLACER

  • On Tuesday, October 17, all grade 10 and grade 11 students will take the PSAT/NMSQT. There will be no school for grade 9 or grade 12 students.
  • On Wednesday, October 18, all grade 9 students will take the PSAT 9, and grade 12 students who need to demonstrate competency in math and/or English will take the Accuplacer (seniors, watch your email for info, or speak with your counselor). There will be no school for grade 10 or grade 11 students.

Be sure your DPS-issued Chromebook is fully charged and ready for test day – all tests are now digital, and you’ll need to bring your Chromebook (and charger) to school! Grade 11 students, check out the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide HERE.

COMPLETE THE “YOU BENEFIT!” FORM FOR HEALTHY FREE MEALS AND MORE!
All students in DPS will have access to free healthy, nutritious school meals beginning in the 2023-24 school year thanks to the Healthy School Meals for All program approved by Colorado voters! While meals will be provided for free to all DPS students through Healthy School Meals for All, families will still need to complete a form to ensure DPS gets full access to available federal funding.

What this means for families:

  • Please continue to fill out the You Benefit! form (formerly referred to as the Meals Application). We ask all DPS families to please complete the You Benefit! form during registration for the 2023-24 school year. By completing the form, you will help us access all available funds to cover the cost of meals, and other nutritional programs for students.
  • Families who fill out the You Benefit! form may qualify to receive discounted school fees, class materials, bus passes, utilities support and more!
  • All household income information provided through this form is strictly confidential and protected by law. Only one form is required for all children in the household. Immigration, migrant, citizenship or refugee status is not required when completing the form.

Learn more about the Healthy School Meals for All program in a short video in English and Spanishthis flier (Spanish is on page 2), or by visiting the Healthy School Meals for All website. If you have questions about completing the You Benefit! form, please contact the DPS Food & Nutrition Services department by calling 720-423-5600 or emailing the foodservices@dpsk12.org inbox.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS – SEAL OF BILITERACY APPLICATION NOW OPEN
The DPS Seal of Biliteracy is an award for graduating high school students who can read, speak, listen and write at a high level in English as well as another language. It is a prestigious award that lets colleges and employers know you are proficient in more than one language. The Seal appears on your official transcript and your diploma, and you will receive an honorary cord to wear at graduation. If you are interested, please complete this APPLICATION by Friday, October 27. Completing the application establishes you as a Seal candidate and triggers a communication sent out in November with the next steps you need to take to earn the Seal of Biliteracy. Find more information about the path to obtain the Seal HERE. Questions? Contact Mr. Wallace.

FRESHMEN – HOST A MIDDLE SCHOOL SHADOWING STUDENT
Freshmen, would you like to show a current eighth grader all the great things happening GWHS? We have lots of eighth graders signed up for shadowing days October 2 through November 14. SAT PREP COURSE
Juniors and seniors are invited to attend the SAT prep course offered by Campus Prep this fall. The 27-hour comprehensive course, including proctored practice exams, takes place at the University of Denver, and there is a live online option as an alternative. The cost is $175-$195. Campus Prep has provided this popular course at the University of Denver for the past 7 years, and is proud to be the official SAT provider for the Boulder Valley School District. Students who complete the course often increase their score by over 200 points. Visit Campusprep.org  to see the schedules and to apply for the course. Questions? Email admin@campusprep.org or call (877) 805-2521.

GWHS FOOD PANTRY OPEN/VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The GWHS Food Pantry is available to all staff, students and their families who are in need of food for meals. For dates and times the Food Pantry is open, please see this FLYER (note that the dates included in this flyer are not final). The Food Pantry is in need of parent volunteers! If you are passionate about helping others, please scan the QR code(s) in the flyer to sign up.

JOURNALISM, BROADCASTING AND MEDIA NEEDS YOUR HELP
Journalism, Broadcasting and Media is a new program at GWHS designed to give students experience in journalism and broadcasting. We need your help building our equipment inventory! Please click HERE to donate funds, or HERE to donate equipment.

“SCREENAGERS” SCREENING AT NORTH HIGH SCHOOL
North High School is hosting a screening of “Screenagers Under the Influence” on Wednesday, October 4 at 6:00pm in North’s Auditorium. Following the screening, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and share reflections with three community experts in the fields of technology, public health, and medicine. The event is open to North families and students, neighboring schools, and the wider DPS and local community. Food will be provided and there will be a giveaway! We’d like to invite you to join us and hope you might be willing to share this with your networks. RSVP HERE. For more information, click HERE.

CONCESSIONS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FUNDRAISING
This year, GWHS can now collect 50% of concession profits at All City Stadium when GWHS is the home team and we find volunteers to staff the concessions stands. Concessions profits to flow into one general fund that would be shared by teams that offer concessions. Since parents of athletes who are playing would rather be watching and cheering than working concessions, we want to encourage GWHS family to help staff concessions at sporting events in which their athlete is not participating. Students can work concessions, too, if they are with a supervising adult! Please click HERE to sign up.
