DPS-ISSUED CHROMEBOOK REQUIREMENT
All students are expected to check out, use and maintain a DPS-issued Chromebook and charging cord. Several important assessments (including the P/SATs, ACCESS testing, CMAS Science and several AP exams) are pre-loaded into the DPS Chromebook App Kiosk, which are necessary for students to access. Students are expected to bring a laptop or iPad-type device to school each day. When required by GWHS, students should bring their DPS-issued Chromebook to school. When not required, students may bring either their DPS-issued Chromebook or a personal laptop or iPad-type device to school. Students who do not have a DPS-issued Chromebook should watch for an upcoming announcement about checkout procedures.

BUILDING ENTRY AND EXIT TIMES
Students are allowed in the school building between the hours of 7:15am and 4:00pm. If students have an athletic practice, club activity, or other school business to conduct before 7:15am or after 4:00pm, they must be admitted into the building by their coach or adult supervisor, and remain under the watch of their coach/adult supervisor.

EARLY PICKUP TIME CUTOFF
If your student needs to leave before the end of the school day, please note that students cannot be released after 3:00pm. Please schedule any early pickups before 3:00pm, and notify the Main Office at (720) 423-8642.

ASSESSMENT – PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 9 AND ACCUPLACER

  • On Tuesday, October 17, all grade 10 and grade 11 students will take the PSAT/NMSQT. There will be no school for grade 9 or grade 12 students.
  • On Wednesday, October 18, all grade 9 students will take the PSAT 9, and grade 12 students who need to demonstrate competency in math and/or English will take the Accuplacer (seniors, watch your email for info, or speak with your counselor). There will be no school for grade 10 or grade 11 students.

Be sure your DPS-issued Chromebook is fully charged and ready for test day – all tests are now digital, and you’ll need to bring your Chromebook (and charger) to school! Grade 11 and 10 students, check out the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide HERE. Grade 9 students, check out the PSAT 9 Student Guide HERE

All testing students should check their @dpsk12.net email the week of October 9 for their room assignment, start time and approximate end time. As all P/SAT assessments are now digital, the administration time is shortened: standard time will end around 11:45am, and +50% extended time will end around 1:00pm.

COMPLETE THE “YOU BENEFIT!” FORM FOR HEALTHY FREE MEALS AND MORE!
All students in DPS will have access to free healthy, nutritious school meals beginning in the 2023-24 school year thanks to the Healthy School Meals for All program approved by Colorado voters! While meals will be provided for free to all DPS students through Healthy School Meals for All, families will still need to complete a form to ensure DPS gets full access to available federal funding.

What this means for families:

  • Please continue to fill out the You Benefit! form (formerly referred to as the Meals Application). We ask all DPS families to please complete the You Benefit! form during registration for the 2023-24 school year. By completing the form, you will help us access all available funds to cover the cost of meals, and other nutritional programs for students.
  • Families who fill out the You Benefit! form may qualify to receive discounted school fees, class materials, bus passes, utilities support and more!
  • All household income information provided through this form is strictly confidential and protected by law. Only one form is required for all children in the household. Immigration, migrant, citizenship or refugee status is not required when completing the form.

Learn more about the Healthy School Meals for All program in a short video in English and Spanishthis flier (Spanish is on page 2), or by visiting the Healthy School Meals for All website. If you have questions about completing the You Benefit! form, please contact the DPS Food & Nutrition Services department by calling 720-423-5600 or emailing the foodservices@dpsk12.org inbox.

Real Talk, Big Future’s virtual event series for Black students and their parents, is back! They are kicking off the season with two nights to help students decide whether an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) or PWI (Predominantly White Institution) is right for them. Black students and their families are encouraged to attend both virtual Real Talk events on Tuesday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 10 to compare their options and make the best college choices for them. These events are the perfect opportunity for students to interact directly with admissions reps and current college students! Click HERE for more info and to register.

GWHS FOOD PANTRY OPEN/VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The GWHS Food Pantry is available to all staff, students and their families who are in need of food for meals. “SCREENAGERS” SCREENING AT NORTH HIGH SCHOOL
North High School is hosting a screening of “Screenagers Under the Influence” on Wednesday, October 4 at 6:00pm in North’s Auditorium. Following the screening, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and share reflections with three community experts in the fields of technology, public health, and medicine. The event is open to North families and students, neighboring schools, and the wider DPS and local community. Food will be provided and there will be a giveaway! We’d like to invite you to join us and hope you might be willing to share this with your networks. RSVP HERE. For more information, click HERE.

CONCESSIONS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FUNDRAISING
This year, GWHS can now collect 50% of concession profits at All City Stadium when GWHS is the home team and we find volunteers to staff the concessions stands. Concessions profits to flow into one general fund that would be shared by teams that offer concessions. Since parents of athletes who are playing would rather be watching and cheering than working concessions, we want to encourage GWHS family to help staff concessions at sporting events in which their athlete is not participating. Students can work concessions, too, if they are with a supervising adult! Please click HERE to sign up.

LOVE MY AIR PROGRAM SURVEY
Help the City of Denver better work with Denver Public Schools to raise awareness of air pollution. The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) has been working with local Denver schools to monitor air quality and share information with students and school staff to keep students healthy on bad air days. Your input can improve those efforts. Use this LINK to access a survey about your experience with air pollution. For each survey response (which should take 5-10 minutes), the organization will donate $5 to the Denver Public Schools Foundation!
