DPS-ISSUED CHROMEBOOK REQUIREMENT
All students are expected to check out, use and maintain a DPS-issued Chromebook and charging cord. Several important assessments (including the P/SATs, ACCESS testing, CMAS Science and several AP exams) are pre-loaded into the DPS Chromebook App Kiosk, which are necessary for students to access. Students are expected to bring a laptop or iPad-type device to school each day. When required by GWHS, students should bring their DPS-issued Chromebook to school. When not required, students may bring either their DPS-issued Chromebook or a personal laptop or iPad-type device to school. Students who do not have a DPS-issued Chromebook should watch for an upcoming announcement about checkout procedures.

ASSESSMENT – PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 9 AND ACCUPLACER

  • On Tuesday, October 17, all grade 10 and grade 11 students will take the PSAT/NMSQT. There will be no school for grade 9 or grade 12 students.
  • On Wednesday, October 18, all grade 9 students will take the PSAT 9, and grade 12 students who need to demonstrate competency in math and/or English will take the Accuplacer (seniors, if you need to take Accuplacer, you received your room assignment email on Friday, October 6). There will be no school for grade 10, grade 11 and some grade 12 students.

Be sure your DPS-issued Chromebook is fully charged and ready for test day – all tests are now digital, and you’ll need to bring your Chromebook (and charger) to school! Grade 11 and 10 students, check out the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide HERE. Grade 9 students, check out the PSAT 9 Student Guide HERE

All students should check their @dpsk12.net email for their room assignment, start time and approximate end time. As all P/SAT assessments are now digital, the administration time is shortened: standard time will end around 11:45am, and +50% extended time will end around 1:00pm.

BUILDING ENTRANCES FOR TARDIES
For safety and accountability, students who are arriving to GWHS more than 5 minutes after the start of any class must check in at the North Lobby. Students will not be admitted through any other building door following the 5 minute tardy period.

COMPLETE THE “YOU BENEFIT!” FORM FOR HEALTHY FREE MEALS AND MORE!
All students in DPS will have access to free healthy, nutritious school meals beginning in the 2023-24 school year thanks to the Healthy School Meals for All program approved by Colorado voters! While meals will be provided for free to all DPS students through Healthy School Meals for All, families will still need to complete a form to ensure DPS gets full access to available federal funding.

What this means for families:

  • Please continue to fill out the You Benefit! form (formerly referred to as the Meals Application). We ask all DPS families to please complete the You Benefit! form during registration for the 2023-24 school year. By completing the form, you will help us access all available funds to cover the cost of meals, and other nutritional programs for students.
  • Families who fill out the You Benefit! form may qualify to receive discounted school fees, class materials, bus passes, utilities support and more!
  • All household income information provided through this form is strictly confidential and protected by law. Only one form is required for all children in the household. Immigration, migrant, citizenship or refugee status is not required when completing the form.

Learn more about the Healthy School Meals for All program in a short video in English and Spanishthis flier (Spanish is on page 2), or by visiting the Healthy School Meals for All website. If you have questions about completing the You Benefit! form, please contact the DPS Food & Nutrition Services department by calling 720-423-5600 or emailing the foodservices@dpsk12.org inbox.

IB EXAM REGISTRATION
IB students, the window is open for you to register for IB exams in May. Posted around the building are FLYERS with unique QR codes for students to register. There are separate codes for Diploma seniors, Diploma juniors, and course students. Be sure you choose the correct code when signing up. Questions about exams or exam fees? Please email Ms. Stark or visit her in the Success Center.

AP EXAM REGISTRATION
AP students, as a reminder, if you are taking an AP exam in May 2024 you must pay for your exam HERE. Each exam is $102; a $10 per exam late fee begins Wednesday, November 1 and all exams must be paid for by Friday, November 10. Questions? Click HERE for a list of FAQs.

COMMUNITY LEARNING GRADING
Students, Community Learning is graded as a “Pass/Fail” course. Though it will not affect your GPA negatively or positively, a “Fail” on your transcript may affect your credit status, or even your admission to college. Be sure you attend each Community Learning class – you’ll earn your “Pass” and keep on top of important school news, surveys and lessons. Here is how grading works:
  • You will have one graded assignment each week, which will be a one-point assignment (if your teacher can see that you have completed the assignment, you will receive the point)
  • If you are in your Community Learning class but unable to complete that day’s assignment, you will have up to two weeks to complete it and show your teacher
  • At the end of each semester, you will earn a “Pass” if you have 60% or higher
  • If you are absent and your absence is excused, you will have the graded assignment marked as “excused.” If you are absent and your absence is unexcused, you will receive zero points for that assignment, and you will not have the opportunity to make it up.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS – SEAL OF BILITERACY APPLICATION NOW OPEN
The DPS Seal of Biliteracy is an award for graduating high school students who can read, speak, listen and write at a high level in English as well as another language. It is a prestigious award that lets colleges and employers know you are proficient in more than one language. The Seal appears on your official transcript and your diploma, and you will receive an honorary cord to wear at graduation. If you are interested, please complete this APPLICATION by Friday, October 27. Completing the application establishes you as a Seal candidate and triggers a communication sent out in November with the next steps you need to take to earn the Seal of Biliteracy. Find more information about the path to obtain the Seal HERE. Questions? Contact Mr. Wallace.

DOUGHNUTS WITH DR. DAVIS
Parents, guardians and community members, please join our principal, Dr. Davis, on Wednesday, October 11 from 8:00 to 8:30am in the GWHS Community Room for doughnuts and conversation. Black students and their families are encouraged to attend both virtual Real Talk events on Tuesday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 10 to compare their options and make the best college choices for them. THANK YOU FROM THE PTSO
A huge thank you to everyone that joined us at the GWHS Meet and Greet Fundraiser this past weekend. It was so fun seeing old friends, meeting new people, and raising money for our fantastic school. If you were unable to join us but would still like to contribute, please Venmo your donation to @GWPC-Be-Inspired!

GWHS FOOD PANTRY OPEN/VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The GWHS Food Pantry is available to all staff, students and their families who are in need of food for meals. For dates and times the Food Pantry is open, please see this FLYER (note that the dates included in this flyer are not final). The Food Pantry is in need of parent volunteers, and a new chairperson (our longtime volunteer parent, Jo-Nell Herndon, needs to transition away from managing the Food Pantry, and we wish her all the best)! If you are passionate about helping others, please scan the QR code(s) in the flyer to sign up. If you’d like to chair the Food Pantry, please contact Jasmine Locks.

TENNIS FUNDRAISER
Our tennis team is seeking donations for its end-of-season fundraiser. Any amount is helpful! The funds will be used for the end-of-year activities, including expenses for the Varsity regional and state tournaments, the all-team banquet, and equipment for next year. Please donate on MySchoolBucks HERE. Thank you for your support!

CONCESSIONS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FUNDRAISING
This year, GWHS can now collect 50% of concession profits at All City Stadium when GWHS is the home team and we find volunteers to staff the concessions stands. Concessions profits to flow into one general fund that would be shared by teams that offer concessions. Since parents of athletes who are playing would rather be watching and cheering than working concessions, we want to encourage GWHS family to help staff concessions at sporting events in which their athlete is not participating. Students can work concessions, too, if they are with a supervising adult! Please click HERE to sign up.
